Half the room in the Louisiana House Judiciary Committee was filled by advocates from Puentes and other organizations, gathering to oppose HB 1205 on May 27th 2010. The anti-immigrant bill was killed.

This is a statue of Jose Marti on the corner of Banks and Jef Davis in New Orleans. The statue was put up by the local Cuban community to commemorate a founding father of Cuban independence.

A crowd gathers at the October 9th opening of the photography exhibit “Abriendo Puertas, A Photographic Look at What We All Have in Common.” Organizers of the exhibit came to explain the process by which the exhibit came to be. The exhibit will be In The Riverwalk Mall through January.
“I am LatiNola”
On Sunday October 4th, LatiNola volunteers and members of the LatiNola Youth Leadership Council volunteered passing out the giveaways at the Saints game. As thanks, all volunteers got to see the game! Although the program is brand new, high school students in the LYLC are already coming out to volunteer and get involved, and to enjoy the wonderful world of pro-football. Go Saints!
LatiNola volunteers pose for a quick photo in Armstrong Park before going out to volunteer in New Orleans East. LatiNola participated in the LDRF Rebuild-a-thon on the fourth anniversary of Hurricane Kartrina.
In New Orleans East at Mary Queen of Vietnam Church, volunteers learned about the work that goes on in the community. The garden you see is the work of a few old men, said our host. He explained that agriculture is a way to preserve their Vietnamese heritage, and to help we got to work clearing a space for a new urban farm.

- Send photos to cdecker@puentesno.org. In the email, please include your name as you want it to appear on the website, and a caption for your photo(s) including the location and a brief description if you wish (max 75 words).
- Photos can be of any aspect of the Latino community in the New Orleans Area or of your life as a Latino. That said, we want to make sure LatiNolaNow.org is appropriate for everyone. So please do not send any photos with graphic violence, sexual content or vulgarity.
- You must only submit work that you own and have the rights to. By submitting it to the email address below you are giving LatiNola and Puentes New Orleans, Inc the right to publish and distribute the photo(s) as we wish. When you are out on your photo-expeditions, always ask people first if you can take their picture.
- Photos received by Wednesday afternoon will be put up on Thursday.
- Please try to limit your contributions to your three best photos per week unless you have a spectacular week, and feel free to continue to make submissions each week!
