Census Return Rate in New Orleans Area Slower Than Rest of Nation
Today is the official Census Day, when residents across the country are asked to report the number of people in their household as part of a national head count that will determine congressional representation and the distribution of about $400 billion in federal money annually for the next 10 years.
The count is being hailed the most highly anticipated census ever in southeast Louisiana, given the unprecedented evacuation of the region because of Hurricane Katrinaand the slow pace of recovery in some areas.
