Appeals Court Will Review New Orleans Workers’ Suit

A federal appeals court has agreed to rehear a case against Decatur Hotels.  After Hurricane Katrina decreased hotel workforce, Decatur brought guest workers from Latin American countries to work in the hotels.  The suit accuses Decatur of failing to reimburse workers for transportation, visas, and other moving expenses. 

LatiNola would like to congratulate Eva Hurst for her role in this case from its beginning in 2006.  Eva began in 2006 by assisting and interpreting in meetings between workers, laywers and employers, while working for Hispanic Apostalate.  Eva now works as Coordinator of the Hispanic Public Safety Initiative, a program run in partnership by Hispanic Apostolate Community Services and Puentes New Orleans.
