Choose to Be!!

To blog or not to blog, that is the question. If you’re reading this, you already know the decision I made. A decision is made based on options that one chooses to elect. To make it even simpler, I am this because I choose to be.
My mother recently encountered a man at a hospital from Ecuador. He was living a decent life in his country, yet felt he needed more. He legally went to Mexico and illegally entered the United States “The land of opportunity.” He was found lying on the side of the road sick, without food, shelter, or means of communication. He was then brought to the ER where he was diagnosed with dehydration. His only choice was to sit as long as he could in the Emergency Room, and call it “home away from home” until someone came around to help.
The story doesn’t end there, but my point has already been displayed. We all have choices. We don’t always know where these options will take us, but there will always be choices to make. In this case, my mother had several choices - to help, to listen, or to ignore. Her character made it easy for her to choose two of the three options, which was to listen, and help. How she helped is pointless but that she chose to help was the answer he was awaiting.
We can point fingers and call this man all sorts of negative adjectives, but I personally applaud him for desiring more and choosing to live a better life. He didn’t foresee all the headaches it would come with, but his heart told him that if it didn’t pan out the way he had hoped at least some help would come. Trials and tribulations were certainly there but hope always remained.
Character is built by the situations and circumstances we encounter. We have to make mistakes in order to recognize and value our desired goals in life. We have to accept and receive those minor victories rather than just ignore them and await the golden metal.
