What is your Reality???

John and Kate Plus 8….WOW… It’s incredible that we have built a society geared around shows and not true reality. Quite frankly, I’m not troubled by the fact that these two spouses hate each other, I’m troubled about how they have allowed their lives to be blasted on National TV without questioning the feelings and future disturbances their kids may encounter. The point of my mentioning these particular individuals is not to persuade anyone to discontinue their devotion towards this “so-called” reality show, but to think about what you are truly devoted to and whether you are touching anyone’s lives by doing so.
My son recently asked, “Ma, why are famous people dying?” This was a very good question coming from a child, but it was a horrible thought for me. He tried to make since of the unusual deaths that have occurred recently from Ed McMann to Michael Jackson and now the “Oxy-Clean” guy. (Yes, I know he died too!) The only answer I could possibly think of was that death is inevitable no matter who you are, but yet the most powerful message I could get from this is that impressions are made to last. Michael’s talents brought so much happiness into the lives of others that even after death he will be remembered. Oxy-clean guy, though he was known for his products didn’t do much for me, and I know this because I can’t even remember his name. Though he may have definitely done wonders for households- did he do much for peoples actual lives? Did he make them feel, think, or believe in anything?
What is reality? Well, I believe reality is not found in these so-called shows or celebrities. Reality is truth. It’s the defining moment in which mental and emotional changes are occurring in the lives of people. John and Kate Plus 8 should have been called “The 8 plus John and Kate”. Theses kid’s future has been affected because of the focus people have put on their parents. They allowed this so-called reality to manipulate and destroy their future lives together. What legacy are they leaving behind?
I recently heard someone mention a horrible statement a women had on her tombstone. It read: “Died just as she lived, Lonely”. This statement is such a horrible way to feel or think. It makes you wonder what happened to this woman. What occurred that allowed for her to define her life in that one sentence. What would you put on your tombstone? What is your reality? Mine, for the most part can be summed up in the following phrase, “A positive work in Progress” Though I know I could never reach perfection I want to make a difference. I strive to achieve happiness, define purpose, and motivation in others and this is my reality.  I’m still not quite sure whether this my purpose, but I know I grow closer to that purpose each day. I encourage others to think about what they do each day rather it be working, going to school, dancing, volunteering, caring for family, or even forming fellowships with others. Are you doing everything in such a way as to bring truth, show devotion, integrity, hard-work, and REALITY into your current life as well as the lives of future generations?  Just ponder on that for a second!!!!
                           I am LatiNola…. A positive work in progress…
