“We’re talking about a matter of basic human rights here,” Law Center president Richard Cohen said.
I wholeheartedly agree. While the U.S. so ardently turns its attention out towards countries like China and Cuba, blaming these countries for human rights abuses, so too in the U.S. do these abuses exist.
We cannot bring this to light enough - the U.S. is a country of immigrants! No matter what color, race, creed, or affiliation, the ideology upon which the U.S. was founded is one of inclusion.
That is why it outright sickens me to learn that these new “laws” are called Juan Crowe laws. The original Jim Crowe laws denote hate, ignorance, intolerance, and bigotry at the lowest level. These laws are part of the reason why other parts of the country look down upon Southerners as backward, racist, and even stupid. I love the South. I came back from up North to live in the South, but we have got to address the issue human rights for immigrants in the South so the country will take our lead. The Civil Rights movement did not begin in North Dakota. So now, we must begin where the most egregious examples of intolerance are present, right in our own backyard!
