After Gustav, News Cite Migrant Hispanic Concerns
In an article published in New Orleans City Business, and in another published in the Times Picayune, Latino migrant workers, Latino volunteers and leaders expressed the need to communicate more effectively and earlier about available services when an emergency evacuation is pressing. According to the article, Latino migrant laborers working as day laborers have little access to maintstream communication channels. Fear of being deported also contributed to many Latino individuals not taking advantage of the free service that was provided in both Jefferson and Orleans parish.
